The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Succeed at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait generations.
